Systems Safety Engineer

System Safety Engineers needed for a long term contract opportunity with SOC’s client!

We are seeking System Safety Engineers to support complex aerospace and defense programs. Opportunities are available across multiple experience levels for engineers with backgrounds in System Safety, Software Safety, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Safety, or other related safety-critical engineering disciplines.

Locations: Tucson, AZ OR Tewksbury, MA

Estimated Pay Rate: $74.00-$91.00/hour DOE

The ideal candidate will have experience performing engineering safety analyses, identifying and mitigating technical risks, evaluating system or software requirements, and supporting verification activities throughout the engineering lifecycle.

Direct experience with MIL-STD-882/882E is highly preferred; however, engineers with relevant experience in other safety-critical industries and standards are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Perform system and/or software safety analyses and assessments
• Identify potential hazards and evaluate associated technical risks
• Develop and evaluate risk mitigation strategies
• Review system and software requirements for safety considerations
• Support requirements development, verification, and engineering reviews
• Prepare and present technical analyses and safety documentation
• Collaborate with systems, software, hardware, and program engineering teams
• Support internal and customer-facing technical reviews
• Ensure safety requirements are appropriately addressed throughout the engineering lifecycle
• Perform and/or support hazard analyses such as Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Requirements Hazard Analysis, and Operating & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA)
• Support hazard tracking and risk mitigation throughout the system lifecycle

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, STEM, or a related technical discipline
• Experience in System Safety, Software Safety, Systems Engineering, or another safety-critical engineering environment
• Experience with MIL-STD-882/882E preferred
• Experience with related standards such as DO-178/DO-178B, DO-254, ARP4761, ISO 26262, AOP-52, or similar safety standards is beneficial
• Experience with hazard analysis, risk identification, risk assessment, and mitigation
• Understanding of engineering requirements and verification processes
• Strong technical communication, analysis, and documentation skills
• Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams

Software Safety Opportunities

Some positions have an increased Software Safety focus. Relevant experience may include:

• Software requirements analysis and verification
• Software hazard analysis and safety assessments
• C/C or other programming language exposure
• Requirements and configuration management tools such as DOORS, Jira, GitHub, or ClearCase
• Experience evaluating software architecture, requirements, and verification evidence from a safety perspective

Candidates do not need to be software developers but should be comfortable evaluating software and software requirements from an engineering safety perspective.

Senior-Level Opportunities

Senior candidates should have demonstrated experience:

• Independently performing system and/or software safety assessments and analyses
• Developing and presenting technical findings and safety recommendations
• Working directly with customers and engineering leadership
• Supporting technical and program reviews
• Providing technical guidance, mentoring, or team leadership
• Taking ownership of safety activities throughout the engineering lifecycle

Security Clearance

Clearance requirements vary by program. Some opportunities may allow qualified candidates to begin work uncleared while the clearance process is initiated, while others may require an active or interim U.S. Government security clearance.

U.S. citizenship is required for positions requiring a U.S. security clearance. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain the clearance required by the program.

Employment Prerequisites

Estimated Pay Range: $74-91/hour
