SoBran is seeking a Veterinary Technician II (ICU) for our Bethesda, MD team.
Description of Duties: (Will include but not limited to)
- Understands and follows all SOP’s and Quality Assurance Standards.
- Assist veterinarians with examinations and procedures, and alert veterinarian of emergencies or animal problems.
- Administer clinical treatments as directed (PO, IM, SQ, IV) to critical and chronic animals.
- Monitor the health status and support medical care for all DVR species (to include NHP’s, dogs, pigs, sheep, rats, rabbits, and mice).
- Operate mechanical ventilators, anesthesia equipment, ECG, capnography and related equipment
- Supervise caretakers during weekend shifts.
- Report personnel problems to Lead Veterinary Technician.
- Participate in weekly technical or SOP training.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Available to work the hours of 6:00am and depart at 2:30pm or from 11am until 7:30pm M-F. You will be required to work on the weekends as scheduled. The weekend hours are from 11:30am to 5:30pm. In addition, you will be expected to work extra hours up to and including overnights as required based on research needs or emergency situations.
Required Experience:
- Must have A.A in Veterinary Technology or B.S. in Biology, Animal Science, or related discipline.
- 5 years of related experience.
- Experience with surgically (aseptically and anesthetically) prepare and transport animals to surgery and recover upon return.
- Experience providing pre and post monitoring of vital signs (respiration, heart rate, body temperature, pulse, etc) of animals scheduled for surgical procedures.
- Ability to think strategically and proactively to anticipate needs, risks, and emerging requirements.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- AALASS certified at LAT and be LATG eligible (LATG certification is required within one year of hire)
