SoBran is seeking a Laboratory Animal Supervisor for our Bethesda, MD team.
Description of Duties: (Will include but not limited to)
- Perform procedures requiring various levels of biohazard containment.
- Receiving animals
- Feeding and watering
- Handling and restraint
- Health surveillance
- Equipment maintenance
- Supply inventories
- Animal manipulations
- Laboratory procedures
- Assist with training husbandry personnel according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Schedule cage changing and assign daily activities to personnel performing husbandry procedures.
- Ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are adhered to by the husbandry staff and suggest modifications to program management.
- Assist with reporting and caring for animal clinical cases.
- Participate in interviews and selection of husbandry personnel.
- Provide information as needed to complete contract deliverables.
- Perform QC duties related to meeting requirements of supported areas and as directed.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed to ensure animal care is carried out in compliance with appropriate timelines to include weekend and holiday coverage.
- Perform animal transportation duties to include pick-up and delivery of animals, complete delivery verification logs, checking and documenting environmental parameters, vehicle sanitation, and maintenance.
- Work under the direct supervision of the assistant project manager.
- Report any abnormal conditions of the animal facility or immediate vicinity to supervisory staff.
Requirement Experience:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of experience in a laboratory animal facility performing rodent and small animal husbandry, leadership experience preferred.
- Must have experience in areas of rodent and regulated species facilities management, breeding, barrier management, and data management.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have a working knowledge of all levels of biohazard containment.
- Experience working in an ABSL3 environment is a plus.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- AALAS certified as a Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) is a must.
