Location: Soap Lake Middle School Reports To: Athletic Director / Principal
Job Summary: The Middle School Boys A-Team Basketball Coach is responsible for leading the competitive boys’ basketball team at Soap Lake Middle School. The coach will focus on skill development, teamwork, and game strategies while creating a positive and respectful environment for student-athletes. Afternoon practice and games up to 120 hours per season.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead practices focused on basketball skill development and team play
- Teach basketball fundamentals, rules, and strategies appropriate for middle school girls
- Coach the A-team during games, tournaments, and team events
- Supervise players during all team activities
- Foster a positive and supportive team culture that promotes sportsmanship and student growth
- Communicate effectively with players, families, and school staff
- Ensure compliance with school, district, and league rules, including academic eligibility
- Coordinate with the athletic director on scheduling, transportation, and equipment needs
- Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of basketball rules, techniques, and coaching methods
- Experience working with middle school-aged girls (preferred)
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must pass a background check and meet district coaching requirements
- CPR/First Aid certification required (or willing to obtain)
