Duties
- Assist legislators in researching, drafting, and editing legislation, including legal drafting of bills and amendments.
- Manage media relations by preparing press releases, coordinating interviews, and developing social media content to promote legislative initiatives.
- Engage in public speaking engagements to communicate policy positions clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
- Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, community leaders, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to enhance public relations efforts.
- Support strategic planning and outreach activities to advance legislative goals and community programs.
- Monitor legislation at local, state, or federal levels; analyze policy impacts.
- Organize and prepare for strategic meetings, public events, or hearings to facilitate community input and transparency.
- Draft talking points, newsletters, and other communication materials that effectively convey legislative priorities.
- Utilize social media management tools to track engagement metrics and optimize outreach strategies.
Qualifications
- Strong interest in media relations, journalism, or public relations.
- Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences.
- Interest in public speaking or facilitating community discussions.
- Basic knowledge of the Alaska legislative process.
- Proficiency in social media management platforms and editing tools for content creation.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Background in marketing or graphic art, or interest in learning.
