SOME, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Controller to support our Finance department.
The Controller is responsible for ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure proper controls are in place to mitigate organizational risk. The Controller is responsible for being proactive in keeping up to date with all new accounting pronouncements, proper treatment of new revenue sources, and any other developments in the compliance space that could impact the agency. The Controller manages the coordination and submission of annual financial audits and ensures that all financial records and reports are accurately maintained and produced on a timely basis.
The Controller is responsible for coordinating the month-end close process, performing analysis of organizational finances, and ensuring that all payments and other disbursements are made in an accurate and timely manner. The Controller maintains financial systems and works with staff and leadership to ensure financial processes, systems, and reporting are in place to support the achievement of organizational goals.
The Controller is the finance team liaison for cross-departmental collaboration and reporting needs.Leads Corporate Compliance Committee, performs annual compliance risk assessment, drafts compliance workplan, and performs investigations in a timely manner. Reports directly to executive leadership and the Board of Directors on key compliance risk areas. Responsible for the development and provision of compliance training to staff and leadership. Collaborates with executive leadership, senior management, and program staff to ensure that agency services are effective, that program outcomes are monitored, and that services are delivered consistent with SOME's mission.

Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; 8-10 years of experience in Finance and Accounting; previous supervisory experience; non-profit finance experience. Experience with Public Accounting and Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) a PLUS!
Required License/Certification: CPA License
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm. Hybrid schedule available; candidates must be located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area with ability to work in our offices on Benning Road in NE Washington, DC.
Expected Contributions: Financial Management/Accounting/Strategy Development
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Finance function
- Oversee SOME budget development and execution against budget
- Maintain the system of accounts, ledgers, and fiscal records on all transactions and assets, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and legal and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the development of all financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Fulfill requests for information by Finance Committee
- Work with the CFO to develop short- and long-term goals for the Finance Team, and lead, manage, and coach a team of financial professionals to ensure delivery of those goals
- Contribute to department budget development, and use sound judgement to leverage resources in accomplishing department goals; Administer budget and comply with SOME financial reporting requirements
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:
- In-depth knowledge of Accounting and Finance; public accounting and affordable housing experience preferred
- Mission driven
- Knowledge of restricted and unrestricted fund levels
- Knowledge of current accounting and reporting software used in the finance department (ADP, Great Plains, Adaptive)
- Knowledge of grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, foundation and individual grants
- Management and supervisory skills
