About Snyder Civil Engineering, LLC

Snyder Civil Engineering, LLC (Snyder Civil) provides top-tier Professional Engineering and Construction Services dedicated to the water supply and distribution utility industry. Supporting both municipal and private water utilities throughout Connecticut, we pride ourselves on a highly collaborative team environment. At Snyder Civil, you’ll find the perfect balance: the support of senior staff when you need it, and the autonomy to manage your own workflow when you don't. As we continue to grow, this role offers significant career advancement potential for a driven design professional.

The Role

Based in our Portland, CT office, the AutoCAD / Civil 3D Technician serves as the critical link between field data collection and engineering deliverables. This is a hands-on technical position that requires more than just "drawing lines", you will translate complex field data into professional-grade design documents, construction plans, and records drawings.

As a member of the technical team, you will produce high-quality drawings with minimal supervision, maintain drafting standards, and help optimize CAD workflows. You will work closely with engineers and field personnel on technically complex civil infrastructure projects involving utility and pipeline construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting & Design: Prepare detailed design drawings and comprehensive construction plans using Autodesk Civil 3D, including alignments, profiles, and plan production.
  • As-Built Documentation: Convert Trimble GPS data and field notes into accurate, survey-grade as-built record drawings.
  • Technical Standards: Ensure all deliverables are technically sound, meet industry standards, and maintain high levels of quality and consistency.
  • Data & Workflow Management: Assist with archiving site data, maintaining field data collection programs, and implementing workflow efficiencies (including basic scripting or VBA where applicable).
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Coordinate with engineers and field personnel to resolve discrepancies and provide informal mentoring to junior staff to maintain team-wide standards.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience: 5 years of relevant CAD drafting and design experience in a civil engineering environment.
  • Technical Mastery: Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is mandatory. You should be prepared to demonstrate these skills during the interview process.
  • Engineering Knowledge: A solid understanding of civil design principles, survey data, coordinate systems, spatial data, and projections.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Professionalism: Strong attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work independently.
  • Licensing: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred:

  • Associate’s degree in drafting, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) certification.
  • Specific experience in utility/water infrastructure design and construction.
  • Hands-on experience with Trimble GPS and GIS platforms (ArcGIS/QGIS).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Retirement: 401(k) with company matching and profit sharing opportunities.
  • Time Off: 2 Weeks Vacation and 1 Week of Sick/Personal Time to start with additional vacation accumulation based on Years of Service.
  • Insurance: Health insurance reimbursement plan.
  • Additional Benefits: Cell phone stipend.
  • Growth: Clear pathways for career advancement within a growing firm.
