Job Description
Teacher's Aide/Substitute
- Purpose
To assist the teacher in providing a warm and nurturing environment in which the child can grow physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually.
- Key Responsibilities
- To interact with and to initiate and encourage the children in activities during the day
- To help the children control behavior using a positive, appropriate and consistent approach
- To provide nurturing, but to help the child become independent
- To keep the room and children tidy and to complete daily cleaning as needed
- Clean bathrooms daily both toilets and sinks
- Vacuum classroom daily
- Take out trash at the end of every day
- To assist the teachers in activities with the group and share information about the children
- To keep supplies ready and in good order
- To assist the teachers in record keeping by passing on observations regarding the children’s health, behavior and development
- To know thoroughly the daily routine and materials which will be needed and where they are stored
- To help prepare the materials needed for future activities
- To take charge of small groups during play time
- To occasionally teach an activity or test a skill when asked by a teacher and when the Aide is comfortable doing so
- To keep the snack preparation area clean
- The Aide is responsible to the school Administrator and the classroom Teacher. The Administrator is at all times the final authority.
- In matters of discipline, the teacher will be aware of the philosophy maintained by the Snow Hill Christian Nursery School and will direct the aide in carrying out that philosophy in the most appropriate manner.
- The Aide will attend all meetings called for by the Administrator.
- Ability to observe and determine the children’s needs and to carry out classroom objectives and experiences based on these needs.
- Ability to adjust own style of communicating to a child’s receptive language level.
- Ability to use own body to convey messages to children.
- Ability to anticipate child’s behavior and respond within the context of the child’s stage of development.
- Ability to understand child’s work including fantasy.
- Ability to convey calm dependability and competence under stress.
- Ability to immediately adjust actions and procedures and to alter classroom experiences to foster change in children.
- Ability to serve as a model for a child’s parents and supporting staff.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
- Evidence of a current FBI background check, including a fingerprint check.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information obtained in your position concerning the child and his/her family.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
