Job Title: Paint Department Lead

Job Purpose and Position Overview: Snow & Company is seeking talented and skilled Lead Painter to join our team! We’re currently involved in some interesting, high-impact projects, including a set of cutting-edge electric tugboats and an 8-year contract to build advanced workboats for the US Navy. It’s an exciting time to be part of our team as we push the boundaries of innovation and craftsmanship!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Measure surfaces to be painted and determine the required quantity and type of paint
  • Identify, mic, and order appropriate paint colors and finishes
  • Prepare surfaces by removing previous coatings using chemical, grit blast, pressure wash, or other approved methods
  • Mask, cover, or remove furniture, hardware, trim, and other non-painted items to protect the,
  • Apply paint to interior and exterior surfaces using a variety of tools such as brushes, rollers, sprayers, airbrushes, and stencils
  • Perform basic stencil and line painting, including marking factory floors, parking lots, and similar surfaces
  • Apply epoxies, water-based paints, and glazes as needed
  • Adhere to all regulations and best practices for the storage and disposal of chemicals and waste
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or project leads

Essential Skills:

  • Professional Painting Experience: Minimum of 4 years of hands-on painting experience, preferably in a marine or industrial environment
  • Tool & Material Familiarity: Solid understanding of painting tools, equipment, and a variety of paints and finishes commonly used in marine settings
  • Management Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience leading a team and guiding others in prioritization, best practices, and processes
  • Surface Preparation Knowledge: Skilled in surface prep techniques including sanding, masking, chemical stripping, and grit blasting
  • Chemical Compound Knowledge: Familiar with the safe handling, application, and disposal of paints, solvents, and other chemical compounds
  • Attention to Detail: Highly organized with a keen eye for detail to ensure clean, precise finishes and adherence to project specifications
  • Communication: Strong verbal communication skills to coordinate with team members and supervisors effectively
  • Reliability: Punctual with a strong attendance record, dependable under varying job site conditions
  • Safety-Oriented: Committed to maintaining a safe work environment and following all safety regulations and protocols
  • Teamwork & Independence: Capable of working independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team environment

Physical and Environmental Demands:

The work environment is a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels due to ongoing production activities. Job duties are performed in production areas and onboard vessels and require:

  • The ability to walk to and from job sites, climb inclined stairways, and use vertical ladders
  • Frequent bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands/fingers for various tasks
  • Occasional reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling
  • Frequent lifting of up to 20 lbs, with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
  • The ability to work in extreme temperatures and conditions, including areas with limited ventilation
  • The ability to enter and work in confined spaces, such as manholes
  • The ability to work at heights
  • Frequent use of a respirator
  • Wearing required safety gear, including a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing
  • Regular exposure to noise from machinery and equipment

Pay and Benefits:

  • $40 - $45 / hour
  • Full time, overtime non-exempt position
