The laborer positions vary from job to job, but they generally will fit into one of the descriptions above. They may range in experience levels from an entry-level position to highly skilled laborers who are adept at a variety of skill levels. Their daily activities can range from clean up, organizing material, delivery and setting of concrete materials, hand excavation with shovels, clay spade, grading sand or dirt, to placing concrete forming materials, and placing/leveling concrete. Skilled laborers are well-organized individuals, dependable, adept at forming skills, anticipate the needs of those who they work with, energetic individuals who keep their tools handy, and who are attentive and focus on their daily activities.
- Follow and enforce the Company Safety Program
- Follow Superintendent direction
- Assist Superintendent in organizing material lists and equipment
- Operate power hand tools safely
- Able to perform the following specific tasks:
- Up-to-date record keeping at all times (daily time sheets, etc.)
- Perform work of a quality level consistent with Snodgrass & Sons standard practice
- Required to routinely lift 100 pounds
- Complete miscellaneous jobs according to instructions given to get units ready for the next phase of construction
- Assist Carpenter in setting concrete forms for sidewalks and stairs (form setter)
- Assist Carpenter in layout, framing, sheet rock, cabinet and counter top installation, scaffold erection, roofing, insulation, etc.
Position Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or comparable experience
- Experience: 6 months Construction experience is preferred
- Technical expertise: To perform the job effectively laborers must be familiar with the duties of the worker they are helping as well as with the materials, tools, and machinery they use.
- Personal traits: Personal maturity, communication skills, teamwork, attention to detail, initiative, analytical skills, planning and organization, valid driver’s license, aptitude for timeliness, desire and ability to work full time (40 hours per week). It is required and expected that if an employee is going to be late, sick or has to be gone, that the employee contact the office or his supervisor
