Job Summary
The Children's Services Librarian delivers dynamic, customer-focused library service. This role involves carrying out high-impact early-literacy and other programming initiatives, conducting extensive outreach to schools, and collaborating with the Information Services team. Professional duties also include providing reference service (in-person and online), tech and readers' advisory help, and ongoing collection maintenance.
Key skills for this position include reference interviewing, clear communication, patience, and instructional clarity, all of which are essential for serving our diverse community, including immigrants, seniors (55 ), and people with varying abilities.
The schedule consists of five 8-hour shifts per week, including regular evenings (typically one per week) and weekends (typically one Sunday per month). Day shifts are 8:30 AM–5:00 PM or 9:30 AM–6:00 PM.
Marysville Library is a large-sized community library located in the East District of Sno-Isle Libraries, serving a rapidly growing, economically vibrant, and diverse community in Snohomish County that includes the neighboring Tulalip Indian Reservation. The library is open seven days a week and offers inclusive and accessible programming, collections, and services that reflect diverse cultures and perspectives.
This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by AFSCME Council 2.

Supervision

Education and Experience
Knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position can be acquired by a combination of experience and education including:
1. Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited university required, or completion of the degree within six months of hire.
2. Provide a Washington State Librarian certificate within 60 days of hire or degree completion.
