What are the responsibilities and job description for the Agricultural Equipment Operator position at SNL Farms?
We are a row crop farm specializing in corn, cotton, and peanuts, with some wheat and soybeans as well. Field preparation begins in February, and planting starts in March. Our crop season runs through harvest in December, and we require seasonal employees during this period to assist with daily tasks. Job duties include preparing fields for planting; attaching farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors using bolts and hand tools; and operating tractors, planters, sprayers, seed drills, manure spreaders, irrigation systems, and other farm equipment. Employees will engage in planting, weeding, spraying, and harvesting activities, including fertilizing, dusting, and spraying crops, as well as applying pesticide and fertilizer solutions using hand sprayers. Additional duties involve installing, maintaining, and repairing pivot irrigation systems; loading hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks; manipulating machine controls; mixing and adding chemicals or seed into machinery; and monitoring equipment to detect malfunctions. Employees will also attach equipment extensions or accessories, operate harvest equipment, drive pickup trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools, and complete inspections, adjustments, routine maintenance, and repairs on both farm and irrigation equipment. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience.
