Sr. Systems Engineer-Virtualization & Storage

The Senior Systems Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of our enterprise virtualization and storage environments. This role will drive innovation across our infrastructure, with a strong focus on performance, scalability, and storage integration. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in VMware technologies (vSphere, vCenter, vSAN) and experience extending to platforms solutions such as Nutanix, OpenShift, Azure Local, and containerized environments. We're seeking a hands-on technical leader who can architect robust, high-performing systems, and shape the future of our virtual infrastructure and enterprise storage strategies.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES
Storage Focus

• Design and integrate high-performance storage environments (Fiber Channel, iSCSI, vSAN) to support complex workloads.
• Oversee capacity planning, performance tuning, and proactive monitoring across all infrastructure ecosystems.
• Creating, configuring and manage LUNs. Define LUN size and storage allocation types (Thick or thin provisioning). Manage access permissions and allocations
• Manage Fiber Channel infrastructure switches and fabric network.

Virtualization Focus

• Lead the architecture, deployment, and optimization of enterprise-grade virtualization solutions.
• Manage and enhance VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, NSX-T, and Aria (vROP) environments to ensure reliability, security, and efficiency.
• Install, configure, and administer VMware vSphere, ESXi hosts, and vCenter Server environments from inception through advanced configurations.
• Implement and maintain VMware Aria (formerly VRealize Operations) for comprehensive monitoring, analytics, and capacity planning.

Operational Focus

• Serve as a subject matter expert for troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of escalated Level II/III virtualization issues.
• Establish best practices, documentation standards, and governance for virtualization and storage systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align infrastructure capabilities with business needs and future growth.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across infrastructure initiatives.
• Partner with vendors for support, roadmap planning, and new technology evaluation.
• Participate in a mandatory 24/7 on-call rotational schedule to ensure continuous operations.

Technical Experience-Qualifications Needed

• Bachelor's degree within Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related disciplines (or equivalent professional work experience).
• 7-10 years in IT infrastructure, with at least 5 years in a senior-level virtualization or architecture role.
• 7-10 years Hands-on experience with core Windows Infrastructure services (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy).
• Strong understanding of virtual networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing)
• Skilled in scripting and automation (PowerShell, PowerCLI, Ansible)
• 5 years working with VMware vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, NSX-T, and Aria Operations in a Senior Engineering capacity

• 5 years working with storage architecture and integration (Fiber Channel, iSCSI, vSAN) including Brocade, Cisco, and Hitachi VSP/G-Series at a senior level
• Certifications: VMware (VCP, VCAP) or equivalent certifications strongly preferred.
• 5 years working with hybrid compute infrastructure such as Azure or AWS (Plus if you have this experience).

• 3 years in an engineering role with multi-hypervisor infrastructure including, but not limited to Nutanix, OpenShift, Azure Local, and/or Hyper-V (Plus).
• Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Experience managing projects and communicating effectively with technical and non-technical users
• Demonstrated solid written and oral communication skills.
• Proven analytical skills, attention to detail, problem-solving, and fact-based decision-making abilities.
