What are the responsibilities and job description for the Compliance Respiratory Therapist - NIV Experience Required position at SNF DIVISION?
Foundations Health Solutions, Ohio's premier long term care provider, is looking for a full-time Respiratory Therapist to join our team! This role is for NIV compliance checks in the Cincinnati/Dayton area.
Daily/Shift Responsibilities
- Review NIV usage hours, refusal documentation, and adherence to prescribed settings.
- Validate that nurses are completing the NIV Progress Note UDA once per shift or each time NIV is offered or encouraged.
- Confirm documentation reflects actual usage, refusals, education, mask issues, and symptom changes.
- Update the compliance tracker, PCC notes, Vent Calendars
- Verify trial notes and initiation notes for new NIV residents.
Device & Equipment Oversight
- Inspect Trilogy devices to ensure correct settings, alarms, humidity, and circuit setup.
- Assess mask fit, tolerance, and risk of skin breakdown.
- Troubleshoot leaks, pressure intolerance, alarms, and comfort issues.
- Notify clinical staff if adjustments or new orders are required.
Resident Assessment & Clinical Monitoring
- Assess work of breathing, respiratory rate, accessory muscle use, SpO₂ trends, and comfort on NIV.
- Identify barriers to NIV usage and provide re-education.
- Monitor for decline or decompensation requiring provider notification.
- Review ABG/VBG lab dates and confirm eligibility requirements are met.
Compliance Tracking & Reporting
- Update the Excel compliance tracker, facility NIV calendar, and daily usage logs.
- Ensure consistency between documentation in PCC and compliance tools.
- Prepare summaries of compliance issues, refusal patterns, and residents needing follow-up.
Communication & Coordination
- Collaborate with nursing, DON, therapy, and administration to address compliance gaps.
- Coordinate with Central Intake and leadership for qualifying residents or updated orders.
- Escalate clinical concerns or abnormalities to the NP/MD promptly.
- Ensure standardized documentation processes across all facilities.
Education & Resident Engagement
- Educate residents on the benefits of NIV and reinforce adherence.
- Train nursing staff on mask application, troubleshooting, and encouraging resident usage.
- Provide family education when appropriate.
Quality Assurance & Program Integrity
- Validate all eligibility documents, usage hours, and labs meet CMS/Ohio Medicaid requirements.
- Ensure documentation is consistent, accurate, and audit-ready.
- Assist leadership with internal or external audit preparation.
