About Snell Engineering Consultants

Snell Engineering Consultants is a full-service structural engineering consulting firm specializing in the design, analysis, and evaluation of buildings. We offer these services for a wide variety of projects throughout the Eastern United States, ranging in scope from residential additions and small commercial structures to high-rise buildings. We utilize the most current design and delivery software, and with the capability to provide high LOD BIM models, we can meet our clients’ needs no matter the requirement. We take pride in the continuing relationships we maintain with our clients and go out of our way to be proactive members of the design team.

Founded in 1993, SNELL has been engineering and inspecting exciting projects for nearly three decades, providing a diverse range of services including full structural design, expert witness, value engineering, and specialty engineering services. Our Culture

At SNELL, we operate in tight-knit project teams where collaboration is built into how we work — but our culture extends across the whole firm. Everyone stays engaged with what others are working on, and it’s common to draw on a colleague’s experience from a different project team when you need it. Mentorship at SNELL is intentional. Senior staff make time to teach, and professional growth is something we take seriously and tailor to the individual. Whether that means deepening technical expertise, expanding into project ownership, or developing client relationships, we work with each person to build a career path that fits them. Debates about code interpretation and design approach happen openly, and no one is too senior to consider a better idea regardless of where it comes from.

If you thrive when you’re trusted, challenged, and surrounded by people who care about the work — you’ll fit in here.

About the Position

We are seeking a Structural Project Engineer to join our growing team. We are currently working on projects across the eastern United States. The position will focus on Structural Design and Construction Administration of a variety of building projects, including Commercial, Educational, Office, Private, and Multi-family Residential.

Qualified candidates should have between 0 and 3 years of experience as a structural or project engineer on vertical structural projects. The individual should be able to meet our clients’ goals and objectives, adhere to project scope and timelines, and take responsibility for technical design. The individual should also be capable of monitoring construction progress on assigned projects and providing direction to field inspectors and construction team members to help meet project milestones.

This position reports directly to a Structural Project Manager. Candidates should be actively pursuing licensure as a Structural Engineer.

Responsibilities

•       Assist in the preparation of permittable structural engineering packages for building structures in accordance with jurisdictional requirements.

•       Perform structural design and analysis of wood, aluminum, steel, masonry, and concrete structures, including design software modeling and overall load path.

•       Perform complete structural design — including framing layout — on small projects, and design assigned portions of larger projects.

•       Work daily in Revit to develop and maintain BIM models and working drawings in coordination with BIM Staff.

•       Communicate framing options during Design Development with the Project Manager, BIM Staff, Architects, and other engineering consultants.

•       Track jurisdiction-specific code requirements and communicate that information to the project team.

•       Be the main point of contact for Construction Administration on assigned projects: oversee, log, coordinate, and respond to shop drawings and RFIs in a timely manner.

•       Coordinate construction-related questions and provide direction and responses to the General Contractor and field team.

•       Inspect, analyze, and evaluate existing structures; conceptualize structural design solutions; and research code-related information.

•       Perform occasional site visits on design projects, which may require travel outside of the immediate area.

•       Perform threshold inspections on local threshold projects.

Requirements

•       Graduate of a Civil/Structural ABET-Accredited Engineering program; must hold an F.E. certificate or have the ability to obtain one within 3–6 months.

•       0–3 years of structural engineering experience on vertical building projects.

•       Strong computer skills including MS Office, Google Docs, and Bluebeam.

•       Knowledgeable of code-referenced standards (ASCE, FBC/IBC, ACI, AISC, NDS, etc.).

•       Actively pursuing licensure as a Structural Engineer (SE).

•       Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•       Strong multi-tasking, organizational, and time management skills.

•       Ability to interact professionally in a team-oriented office environment.

Preferred Qualifications

•       Experience with Revit or other BIM software; training will be provided.

•       Experience with structural engineering design software such as RISA-3D or equivalent; training will be provided.
