Associate Attorney

Sneed & Stearns, PA
Mountain, NC Full Time
POSTED ON 12/31/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/29/2026

Company Description

We are a full-service law firm nestled in the heart of downtown Black Mountain, proudly serving clients across the greater Asheville area for more than 40 years. Our practice is rooted in estate planning and administration, real estate transactions, small business counsel, and civil litigation, with a strong community service ethos that defines everything we do.

We are a close-knit team that values warmth, mutual support, and shared purpose. Our office culture blends high energy with deep care for our clients, our team, and the community we serve. We believe the best legal work happens when people are treated with respect, given space to grow, and supported by systems that promote efficient and effective work product, while also facilitating appropriate work-life.

Role Description

Responsible for handling a diverse caseload focused on estate administration, guardianship proceedings (both initial appointments and estate management), and other special proceedings before the Clerk of Superior Court, including name changes, partition actions, estate proceedings, and the occasional litigated matter in Superior Court.

Our clients often arrive in moments of grief or stress, and our firm is known for offering a steady hand and a structured process that brings comfort and relieves the burden facing loved ones. You will play a critical role in carrying that mission forward.

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate can walk a grieving client through next steps with patience and care, but can also zealously advocate a client's position in a courtroom. We are looking for a lawyer who can command trust in sensitive conversations and confidence in front of the bench.

This is not an entry-level role. Ideal candidates will be self-sufficient in managing their case load, overseeing support staff, communicating with clients, and meeting court deadlines. We are seeking applicants with 3 - 5 years of experience in at least one of the following areas: estate administration, guardianship law, or special proceedings before the Clerk of Superior Court. If you’re not already comfortable in this practice space, this role likely won’t be the right fit.

What Makes This Role Special

Mostly Remote: This position can be performed almost entirely remotely. We use modern cloud-based systems and staff are equipped to collaborate virtually. But if remote work isn't your cup of tea, we'd love to welcome you into our lovely office space.

Mission-Driven Work: We believe the law can be a force for dignity and healing. You’ll support clients at vulnerable times and be part of a firm recognized for its pro bono leadership and community advocacy.

Supportive Culture: We prioritize mentorship, regular check-ins, and sustainable caseloads. Our team celebrates wins together and supports one another when life throws curveballs.

  • Coordinate with support staff to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow
