Position Summary: The primary focus of this position will be to teach Snapology programs during our summer camps session.
Instructors are asked to promote creativity, teamwork and problem solving skills while educating students on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) concepts. Programs are conducted for elementary aged students, although not all instructors are required to teach all age groups. This role requires internal collaboration and communication with Snapology leadership as well as representing the Snapology organization to parents & children with a high degree of professionalism. Locations: This position is active for programs happening at our partner locations in Frederick, MD (Centerville Recreation Center, Deer Crossing Recreation Center, Tuscrarora Recreation Center)
Role & Responsibilities: Our main goal is that students are provided with a fun, enriching summer experience in a safe, supportive environment. To continue reaching this goal, you will be asked to:
- Lead groups of up to 20 students through curriculum-guided activities
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of Snapology
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies
- Adequately prepare for each program by reading curriculum, watching training videos and/or participating in face-to-face training sessions
- Handle inquiries from parents regarding Snapology programs
- Encourage students & parents to enroll students in future Snapology programs
- Participate in periodic Snapology training & staff meetings, as required
Qualifications:
- Criminal and Child Clearances must be current
- 2 or more years of experience working with children in a classroom or camp environment
- Education degree or teaching experience recommended, teachers, pursuing a degree in education will also be considered for this position
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
Programs:
Summer camps programs run from June 22 through July 17, though programs are limited for the weeks of June 22, June 29 and July 17.
This position is part-time. Depending on candidate availability and the time of year, Snapology Summer Instructor typically work between 20-40 hours per week.
Compensation: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
Training: All training on our curriculum and policies/procedures is provided. This will generally take place over two Saturday's in June and will include your First Aid/CPR certification, if needed.
Additional Opportunities are available during the school year for interested staff. We run after-school programs in the area (typically 1.5-3 hours/day, after school) as well as week-long programs during April Break.
