Job Title: Supervisor, Metal Fabrication & Welding
Position Summary:
The Supervisor, Metal Fabrication & Welding oversees daily shop operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality fabrication and welding of metal components. This role manages personnel, schedules production, maintains quality standards, and coordinates with engineering, production, and operations teams to meet delivery timelines and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise day-to-day metal fabrication and welding shop activities
- Lead, train, and mentor welders, fabricators, and shop personnel
- Plan and prioritize production schedules to meet deadlines
- Ensure compliance with welding procedures, drawings, and specifications
- Maintain quality standards and conduct in-process inspections
- Enforce all safety policies, PPE requirements, and safe work practices
- Coordinate with engineering on drawings, revisions, and technical questions
- Monitor productivity and implement process improvements
- Manage material flow, cutting lists, and shop floor organization
- Ensure proper maintenance and utilization of fabrication equipment
- Support hiring, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions
- Track labor hours and report on production performance
- Reduce scrap, rework, and improve overall shop efficiency
Required Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in metal fabrication and welding
- 2 years of supervisory or team lead experience
- Strong knowledge of MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings
- Experience with structural steel, sheet metal, and aluminum fabrication
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Knowledge of shop math and measuring tools
- Understanding shop safety requirements
- Bilingual - English-Spanish a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Welding certification (AWS or equivalent)
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles
- Forklift and/or overhead crane experience
- Familiarity with ERP or production scheduling systems
