Duties
- Provide peer support and mentorship to youth experiencing mental health conditions, substance use issues, or co-occurring disorders, utilizing shared lived experience to foster hope and motivation
- Engage clients in recovery planning, goal setting, and skill development through motivational interviewing and harm reduction strategies
- Assist youth in navigating behavioral health services, community resources, and crisis intervention when necessary
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client information while documenting interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Conduct crisis management by de-escalating situations using behavioral health techniques and crisis intervention skills
- Advocate for culturally diverse communities by respecting individual backgrounds and tailoring support approaches accordingly
- Share personal recovery experiences to inspire resilience and promote peer-led advocacy efforts
Skills
- Strong understanding of crisis management, crisis intervention, and behavioral health principles
- Experience working with individuals with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing, harm reduction, addiction counseling, and social work practices
- Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse populations while maintaining sensitivity and respect for individual differences
- Excellent client communication skills with an emphasis on active listening and empathetic engagement
