Packaging Engineer - ProcurementPosition Overview:As the Packaging Engineer in Procurement, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing packaging solutions that support business objectives, including cost efficiency, product protection, manufacturing optimization, sustainability, and supplier performance.  You will work collaboratively with suppliers, operations, product development, and quality teams to source, test, and implement primary and secondary packaging for new and existing products. Success in this role is defined by your ability to thrive in a fast-paced collaborative environment where you can make a tangible impact on cost, performance, and environmental outcomes.Key Responsibilities·         Lead packaging design, development, and sourcing efforts in collaboration with R&D, Operations, and Engineering.·         Identify and qualify new packaging materials, designs and suppliers that meet performance, cost, and sustainability goals.·         Evaluate and improve existing packaging for cost reduction, sustainability, shipping efficiency, and maintain product viability.·         Partner with suppliers to develop packaging solutions that align with the capabilities of all plants.·         Create technical specifications, packaging machine centerlines, and documentation for supplier sourcing and quality assurance.·         Manage packaging testing protocols (ISTA, ASTM, Etc.) and validate performance through lab and field trials.·         Support procurement initiatives including RFQs, supplier negotiations, and cost modeling for packaging components.·         Contribute to sustainability and circular economy initiative (e.g., recyclable, compostable, reusable packaging).·         Track and report packaging cost savings and process improvement metrics.Qualifications·         Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.·         3-5 years of experience in packaging engineering, preferably in a manufacturing or CPG environment.·         Experience in designing packaging elements for flexible and rigid packaging elements ranging from primary and secondary packaging through the pallet design and logistics for pallet/truck optimization.·         Experience with Autonomous Maintenance and Preventative Maintenance pillars of TPM/Lean programs.·         Experience with designing processes and establishing centerlines for equipment along with Clean, Inspect, and Lubrication standards.·         Experience in creating technical design briefs outlining specifications for packaging elements.·         Experience with Project Management skills (scope, budget, schedules, and working across multi-functional matrix)·         Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with ERP or e-procurement systems.·         Experience working in procurement or sourcing roles related to packaging. CompensationBase pay range: $95,000Company DescriptionSnak King is one of the largest snack food manufacturers in the United States.
