Safety Manager - Conover, NC
The Opportunity

This role partners with plant leadership and employees to proactively identify risks, implement safety programs, and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety. You will play a key role in aligning plant safety goals with broader business objectives while supporting a safe, compliant, and engaged work environment.
How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock
- Lead the development and execution of plant-wide safety programs, policies, and training initiatives
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements, including environmental regulations
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and hazard identification activities to prevent incidents
- Review accident and injury reports, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Serve as the primary point of contact for workers’ compensation and general liability processes
- Partner with operations and plant leadership to strengthen safety practices and drive accountability
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to safety performance and risk reduction
- Manage safety documentation and support third-party audits and compliance reviews
- Promote a culture of safety through coaching, engagement, and employee involvement
- Support safety incentive programs and track participation and effectiveness
- Experience managing or supporting safety programs in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards (OSHA, ANSI, NFPA)
- Experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement corrective actions
- Experience partnering with cross-functional teams to drive safety improvements
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to influence others and promote a proactive safety culture
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office)
- Formal safety training or certifications (e.g., OSHA 30-hour, CSP, ASP)
- Degree in safety, environmental, or related field (or equivalent experience)
