As an Insert Folding Operator, this role is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining insert and outsert folding equipment to support efficient production and quality output. This position ensures folding equipment is properly prepared, maintained, and operated according to specifications, safety standards, and work instructions.
The scope of work includes locating flatstock, performing make‑readies, completing preventative maintenance, and producing folded inserts that meet quality requirements. A typical day may involve preparing folding equipment, running jobs, completing routine maintenance, assembling trays or shippers, and coordinating with surrounding operations to ensure smooth workflow and on‑time production.

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock
- Set up and operate insert and outsert folding equipment to meet production and quality requirements.
- Locate and prepare flatstock to support make‑ready and production activities.
- Perform make‑readies and minor equipment adjustments to achieve proper folding specifications.
- Complete required daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance on folding equipment.
- Operate insert folding machinery as needed to support production demands.
- Assemble trays and shippers as required to support finished product handling.
- Adhere to 6S standards, standard operating procedures, and work instructions.
- Maintain compliance with all quality standards and inspection requirements.
- Support continuous operations by completing assigned tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support department and production needs.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two to three years of related experience and/or training preferred.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, verified through testing or prior work experience.
- Ability to read, write, and interpret complex instructions, correspondence, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to pass a basic reading assessment and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong mathematical skills and basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to pass color vision and color hue testing.
- Reliable attendance and availability to work overtime as required, including significant overtime during busy periods.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work safely around moving mechanical parts, fumes, and chemicals while using required personal protective equipment.
