The Opportunity
The BUG (Building Utilities Grounds) Utility Tech role supports the Maintenance Department by assisting with building, utilities, and grounds activities, as well as small facilities projects and housekeeping efforts throughout the plant. This position helps maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while supporting 5S and housekeeping standards established by management.
This role requires close collaboration with Maintenance and plant leadership, attention to detail, and a strong focus on safety. The Utility Tech performs a variety of support tasks that contribute to smooth facility operations and overall site effectiveness.

Required Qualifications
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required while performing job duties. At a minimum, employees must wear safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, and hearing protection. Certain projects may require additional PPE based on task-specific risks.

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock
- Support the Maintenance Department with daily building, utilities, and grounds-related activities.
- Assist with small remodeling and facilities projects as assigned.
- Perform routine housekeeping and waste disposal activities to maintain plant cleanliness and organization.
- Organize and clean the maintenance area and other designated areas throughout the plant.
- Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in accordance with management expectations.
- Assist leadership and maintenance team members with miscellaneous duties as needed.
- Remain aware of safety concerns and follow all safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Adhere to Smurfit Westrock core values and behaviors while supporting plant operations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to read and write instructions, safety rules, and basic correspondence.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to stand and remain on feet for up to 12 hours per day.
- Ability to use hands for simple and power grasping, pushing, and pulling tasks.
- Ability to safely use hand-operated power tools.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated reliability with consistent attendance.
- Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
