What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Social Media & Content Coordinator position at Smugglers' Notch Distillery?
Smugglers’ Notch Distillery is looking for a creative, organized, and self-motivated Part-Time Social Media & Content Coordinator to help tell our story and grow our presence across social media.
We are a family-founded Vermont craft distillery with tasting rooms in Jeffersonville, Waterbury, Stowe, Manchester, and Burlington, Vermont. Our brands are built around Vermont, the mountains, craftsmanship, hospitality, and distinctive products including our award-winning spirits and maple-based products.
We are looking for someone who can take what is happening throughout the company—new products, cocktail recipes, tasting-room activity, events, Vermont seasons, behind-the-scenes production, special releases, and larger marketing campaigns—and turn it into engaging content.
This is a hands-on role. We are not looking for someone to simply repost graphics or schedule generic content. We want someone who is comfortable taking photos and video, creating Reels and short-form content, writing captions, developing ideas, and helping us consistently show customers what makes Smugglers’ Notch Distillery different.
What You’ll Do
Social Media & Content Creation
- Manage and create content for Smugglers’ Notch Distillery’s Instagram and Facebook accounts.
- Develop a consistent calendar of posts, Stories, Reels, and short-form video.
- Visit our tasting rooms and distillery locations to capture authentic photo and video content.
- Create content featuring products, cocktails, employees, production, tasting rooms, events, customers, Vermont scenery, and behind-the-scenes moments.
- Write engaging captions that reflect the SND brand voice.
- Develop cocktail, recipe, product-education, gifting, seasonal, and Vermont lifestyle content.
- Identify opportunities for spontaneous and timely social content rather than relying entirely on preplanned posts.
- Respond to or help manage comments and messages as appropriate.
Campaign Support
Help bring our larger marketing programs to life on social media, including:
- New product and limited-release launches
- Maple Bourbon Old Fashioned Month
- Seasonal and holiday campaigns
- Tasting-room promotions
- Cocktail and recipe campaigns
- Events and collaborations
- Restaurant and retail partnerships
- Awards, media coverage, and company news
- Vermont tourism and destination-related content
The Social Media & Content Coordinator will work with company leadership to turn these campaigns into a coordinated series of social posts, Reels, Stories, graphics, and other content.
Brand Storytelling
Help tell the broader Smugglers’ Notch Distillery story, including:
- Our Vermont roots
- The people behind the company
- Craft production and product development
- Our tasting-room experiences
- Our connection to Vermont's mountains and outdoor lifestyle
- The story behind individual spirits and products
- Our family-founded history and company milestones
Content should feel authentic and premium—not overly corporate, gimmicky, or generic.
Content Planning
- Maintain a simple monthly social-media calendar.
- Work with leadership to identify upcoming launches, promotions, events, and priorities.
- Plan content in advance while leaving room for timely and spontaneous posts.
- Maintain a library of usable photos, videos, and other brand content.
- Repurpose strong content across platforms when appropriate.
- Coordinate social content with website, email, tasting-room, and other marketing initiatives.
Performance & Growth
- Monitor basic social-media performance and engagement.
- Track which types of posts, Reels, campaigns, and topics perform best.
- Provide simple monthly reporting and recommendations.
- Look for practical opportunities to increase followers, engagement, website traffic, tasting-room visits, and product awareness.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is creative but also able to execute consistently.
You should be:
- Comfortable creating Instagram and Facebook content.
- Experienced with Reels and short-form vertical video.
- Comfortable taking high-quality photos and video using a smartphone.
- A strong writer who can communicate in a natural, conversational brand voice.
- Able to work independently and bring us ideas instead of waiting for detailed instructions for every post.
- Organized enough to manage a content calendar and multiple campaigns.
- Comfortable visiting our Vermont locations to capture content.
- Interested in Vermont, food and beverage, hospitality, tourism, cocktails, outdoor lifestyle, or related industries.
- Able to understand a brand and maintain a consistent visual and written style.
Experience with tools such as Klaviyo, Adobe, Canva, Meta Business Suite, Instagram, Facebook, and basic photo/video editing software is preferred.
Experience working with Shopify, email marketing, photography, TikTok, or digital advertising is a plus, but not required.
What This Role Is Not
This is not primarily a graphic-design position or a digital-advertising position.
We already have established branding, products, campaigns, and marketing direction. We need someone who can help us consistently execute, capture great content, and bring the SND story to life every week.
Schedule
This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule and some in-person work is required in order to capture content at our distillery and tasting-room locations.
The position will include a combination of:
- On-location content creation
- Remote content editing and scheduling
- Occasional event or campaign coverage
Some weekend or evening availability may occasionally be helpful for events and special promotions.
