Scrap Inspector - Mingo Junction, OH

SMS Mill Services, LLC are seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Scrap Inspector and our Mingo Junction, Ohio location. We are onsite JSW’s steel mill property.

SMS provides a comprehensive range of services for steel mill customers. We partner with our customers to design custom, cost-effective solutions, which focus on adding value and achieving goals for the operation and the environment. Our range of services includes, but is not limited scrap yard management, finished or semi-finished product services, melt shop services, logistics/transportation support, and slag processing.

Responsibilities:

• Incoming scrap inspection by Rail and Truck
• The testing of scrap both visually and with a spectrometer.
• Scrap pile maintenance.
• Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings.
• Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
• Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
• Inspection of in/outbound loads.
• Receive, inspect and grade in/outbound loads of scrap metals.
• Direct driver throughout facility and designate dumping area
• Identify non-conforming and/or out of specification materials
• Issue warnings and/or rejections of loads due to non-conforming and/or out of specification materials.
  
  

Requirements:

• Knowledge of Outlook and Excel
• One year experience of operation (scrap handling preferred). Will train
  
  

Other Skills:

• Good communication, language, and reading skills.
• Work with minimum supervision.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Recognizing potential hazards. Willing to work in different outdoor/weather conditions
• This position requires a lot of walking.
• Operate with integrity, have a positive attitude, work with minimal supervision and with others as part of a team in a fast-paced, non-stop environment.
• Understand and carry out supervisors’ instructions (written and verbal).
• Flexible to changing work conditions, assignments, reporting on time and working as scheduled.
