Automation Engineer- Long Products
Summary
Design and Support automation solutions for the modernization and new installation of Long Products Level 1 control systems. This includes equipment for melting and degassing, casting, rolling, and other equipment.

What you'll do
· Develop and implement PLC based automation control systems that include motion control, advanced sensors, VFD drives, and actuators
· Act as a technical expert for all project life cycles (sales, development, commissioning, and support)
· Support existing installed systems and assist customers with challenging technical issues
· Lead Level 1 control system development based on company standards, function descriptions, mechanical and hydraulic layouts, and knowledge of the process and equipment
· Complete sophisticated assignments requiring development of new and/or improved engineering techniques and procedures
· Interface and communicate with local project team (project managers, engineers, support personnel) and internal experts from other divisions as well customers and suppliers to provide engineering solutions to technical issues and project-related matters
· Lead integrated testing and simulation of entire system before delivery to the end customer
· Perform on site commissioning and training as required
What you'll need
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
· Ability to work with minimal supervision
· Be willing to travel internationally (Italy) for training and domestically to support the project work
· Demonstrates ability to apply engineering principles to the solution of design problems
· Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent computer skills
· Italian language skills are a plus
· 0-5 years’ experience in an engineering role in metals or a similar industry
· Interest in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) a plus
· Interest in automation and/or automation practices a plus
