Academic Student Advisor
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Exempt Position; 10 months; Full Time
SALARY: Salary placement will be determined by the NC Salary Teacher Schedule based on license and experience.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Academic Advisor will work collaboratively with the counseling department to support students in their academic planning, course advisement, postsecondary preparation, and overall success. This role focuses on providing guidance in course selection, monitoring academic progress, facilitating scholarship applications, supporting FAFSA completion, and aligning students’ educational experiences with their postsecondary goals. This position does not include counseling responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- NC Teaching License Required in High School Area.
- Strong organizational, communication, multitasking and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in using student information systems and data management tools.
DUTIES/ RESPONSABILITIES:
- Collaborate with the counseling department to develop and implement strategies that align with the ASCA National Model and standards for postsecondary planning.
- Guide students in course selection to ensure academic pathways align with their college, career, and postsecondary goals.
- Monitor students’ academic performance, attendance, and progress toward graduation requirements, addressing barriers and connecting them with appropriate resources.
- Provide information and assistance for scholarship opportunities, application processes, and deadlines.
- Support students and families in completing the FAFSA, understanding financial aid, and exploring funding opportunities for postsecondary education.
- Facilitate workshops for students and families on informational sessions, and presentations related to postsecondary planning, including college admissions, career exploration, and test preparation.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, meetings, and postsecondary plans in accordance with school policies.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and community partners to provide comprehensive support for students.
- Stay informed about current trends in college admissions, workforce development, and financial aid to provide relevant guidance.
- Conduct transcript audits to ensure on-track pathways to graduation.
