JOB DESCRIPTION:
Smoky Mountain Farmers Co-op is seeking a dependable and knowledgeable Small Engine Mechanic to join our team in Newport, TN. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of small engines and outdoor power equipment while providing excellent customer service and support to our sales, parts, and other departments.
The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Mechanical Duties
- Provide excellent customer care through repair and service work
- Diagnose and repair small engines and outdoor power equipment including string trimmers, chainsaws, blowers, mowers, and related equipment
- Complete repairs and maintenance work in a timely manner
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship and safety
Parts Identification & Management
- Identify required parts using catalogs or computer systems
- Record, manage, and organize parts inventory
- Organize and prioritize customer service orders efficiently
Service Coordination
- Assist sales associates with repair documentation
- Create work orders and communicate service needs to the appropriate department
- Help ensure smooth coordination between sales, parts, and service departments
Inventory & Merchandising
- Maintain accurate inventory records for equipment and parts
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized shop area
Product Knowledge
- Stay current on equipment features, industry trends, and maintenance requirements
- Participate in ongoing training as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced understanding of small engines and outdoor power equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to lift and move equipment as needed
- Basic computer skills preferred
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQURIEMENTS:
- Have at least 5 years of experience in service, sales, or a related field
- Having your own tools is preferred, but not required*
