Smoky Mountain Farmers Co-op is seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Outdoor Power Equipment Salesman and Parts Specialist. This dual-role position is responsible for selling equipment, assisting with parts needs, and providing excellent support throughout the equipment lifecycle. This position acts as a liaison between customers, mechanics, and the parts department. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with customers, understand equipment operation, and be able to support both sales and service functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Customer Interaction & Sales
- Greet customers, assess their needs, and provide expert product information
- Demonstrate equipment such as mowers, chainsaws, trimmers, and tractors
- Promote sales, explain financing options, and close transactions
- Ensure a positive, helpful, and knowledgeable customer experience
Parts Identification & Management
- Identify required parts using catalogs or computer systems
- Record, manage, and organize parts inventory
- Process customer orders and assist with parts deliveries
Service Coordination
- Assist customers and mechanics with repair documentation
- Create work orders and communicate service needs to the appropriate department
- Help ensure smooth coordination between sales, parts, and service
Inventory & Merchandising
- Maintain accurate inventory records for equipment and parts
- Assist with product display setup and store organization
- Maintain a clean and well-organized sales area
Product Knowledge
- Stay current on equipment features, industry trends, and maintenance requirements
- Participate in ongoing training as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
- In-depth mechanical knowledge of lawn mowers, handheld equipment, tractors, and implements
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Retail or sales experience preferred, especially with relationship-building and meeting sales goals
- Ability to qualify leads, provide quotes, and overcome customer objections
- Familiarity with point-of-sale systems and inventory software
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQURIEMENTS:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Previous sales or ag retail experience preferred
- Mechanical knowledge or experience in small engines a plus
