Smoky Mountain Children's Home, a faith-based non-profit organization, is seeking an AELC Teacher's Aide at the Sevierville, TN campus. In this role you will be in a position to make a positive difference in the lives of at-risk youth. You will join a team of dedicated individuals who oversee all aspects of welfare for an assigned group of at-risk youth.

JOB SUMMARY

The role of the Teacher’s Aide is very important to the success of the Alpha Education Learning Center (AELC) as it provides essential supervision and support to the youth of Smoky Mountain Children’s Home. The primary goal of this position is effective classroom management, as directed by AELC policy and care-giving, and support to the Direct Care team when school is not in session.


FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Primary Function - Teacher’s Aide

    • Oversees the education of students in the classroom.

    • Maintains all student attendance records.

    • Reports all entrance and exit dates and emails then to the appropriate persons.

    • Prepares all behavior logs and emails them to the appropriate persons

    • Communicates with campus staff as directed by the AELC Principal.

    • Tracks students’ progress and advocates for academic interventions.

    • Maintains a therapeutic learning environment using TCI techniques and trauma-informed practices.

    • Performs PLATO entries/class grouping.

    • Any other duty as requested by the AELC Principal and/or Residential Director.



  • Secondary Function - Direct Care Worker

    • Provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to adolescent youth.

    • Model and encourage positive attitudes and behaviors.

    • Help teach social and independent living life skills, including coping mechanisms.

    • Ensure the safety of every youth.

    • Prepare healthy meals if needed.

    • Provide routine and structure in a home environment.

    • Help youth develop healthy relationships with family and friends.

    • Perform and supervise household chores as needed.

    • Supervise and assist with homework and school activities.

    • Assist youth in achieving their program plan and permanency goals.

    • Plan and supervise social events and activities.

    • Encourage the spiritual growth of each resident.

    • Provide oversight of the cottage, grounds, and equipment.

    • Provide transportation for youth when needed (via company vehicles).


JOB QUALIFICATIONS


  • Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license.

  • Must have a minimum of a high school education or equivalent.

  • Must be able to work as a team and accept supervision.

  • Must be physically capable of performing all job duties.

  • Must be able to pass a drug test and extensive background checks.

  • Must be authorized to work in the US.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Standing: 20%, Sitting: 70%, Walking: 10%; Inside: 80%, Outside: 20%.

Salary Information:

$28,000 - $33,000 per year (commensurate with your level of qualified education), with a $600/year pay increase after 90-day probationary period (with a favorable performance evaluation), and benefits such as 100% paid medical coverage, and more!
