The Construction Quality Control Manager (QCM) is responsible for ensuring that all construction projects meet or exceed the required quality standards, contract specifications, building codes, and regulatory requirements. This role leads the development and implementation of the project Quality Control Plan (QCP), conducts inspections, manages documentation, and works closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to deliver high-quality construction projects on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily/regular site inspections and tests to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and applicable codes (e.g., IBC, ASTM standards).
- Manage and supervise quality control personnel, inspectors, and testing agencies.
- Review and approve submittals, shop drawings, material certifications, and mix designs.
- Coordinate and witness third-party testing and inspections (concrete, soil, steel, welding, etc.).
- Identify, document, and track non-conformance issues; ensure timely corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain comprehensive quality records, daily reports, and as-built documentation.
- Perform quality audits and prepare for owner/engineer quality reviews.
- Work closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent to resolve quality-related issues.
- Ensure all personnel (including subcontractors) are trained on quality standards and procedures.
- Monitor material storage, handling, and installation practices.
- Prepare and submit quality reports, punch lists, and closeout documentation.
- Lead pre-installation meetings and quality control briefings.
- Stay current with industry standards, new technologies, and best practices in construction quality management.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field (preferred).
- Relevant certifications are highly valued (see below).
Experience:
- Minimum 5–8 years of progressive experience in construction quality control on commercial, industrial, institutional, or heavy civil projects.
- Previous experience as a Quality Control Manager or Senior QC Inspector is strongly preferred.
- Experience with government contracts (e.g., USACE, NAVFAC, VA) is a plus.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
- Excellent understanding of quality management systems (ISO 9001 experience is a plus).
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities under pressure.
- Proficient with construction management software
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Physical & Working Conditions
- Ability to work on active construction sites (outdoor exposure to weather, noise, dust).
- Frequent walking, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Valid driver’s license
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
