Smoker & Company and its Family of Companies provide business services spanning various client needs such as bookkeeping, payroll, legal services, consulting, wealth management, and property management. We are currently seeking a Tax Attorney to support our clients’ state and local tax needs. We offer a base salary depending on relevant experience in addition to benefits as well as performance-based bonuses. The ideal candidate for this role would have undergraduate education and/or experience in accounting as well as a law degree and experience. We pride ourselves on our commitment to client service and the professional growth of our employees.
Responsibilities:
- Creating and applying the state and local tax laws to benefit our clients while minimizing their tax obligations
- Completing sale and use tax reverse audits
- Reviewing client companies’ accounts payables data and using tax accruals to determine where sales and use tax is paid
- Analyzing sales and use tax payments for refund opportunities
- Developing appeals schedules and documenting the transactions for a requested refund
- Developing appeals and representing client companies at administrative levels such as PA Board of Appeals and Board of Finance and Revenue
- Elevating appeals and engaging in settlement negotiations as necessary with the office of Attorney General
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate Degree
- Undergraduate Degree in Accounting
- Strong professional ethics / integrity / reliability
- Dedication to providing and ensuring exceptional client services
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Superior understanding of the entire Internal Revenue Code, tax laws of the commonwealth of PA, and local jurisdictions and adjoining states
- The immediate ability to work in the United States
