Duties

Help

The Security Officer oversees a large complex security program that provides protection for all SI controlled and managed facilities. This position also manages the physical security program for one or more SI facilities.

In this position, you will:

GS-12/GS-13

  • Provide strong leadership by developing, guiding, and empowering staff while overseeing all major supervisory functions, including selecting and training personnel, assigning work, evaluating

    performance, and resolving administrative, personnel, and performance issues to maintain a compliant, safe, and high performing security operation.
  • Oversee physical security operations and manages comprehensive security programs, including system planning, resource coordination, and continuous threat assessment to ensure 24/7 protection of facilities, personnel, and assets.
  • Develop and deliver security briefings, plans, and recommendations to senior leadership while advising on the protection of exhibits, collections, and facilities.
  • Serve as the museum/complex focal point and in-house consultant with responsibility for round-the-clock protection from all hazard threats to include vandalism, terrorism, as well as other crimes and provides technical assistance in establishing and maintaining efficient security operations responsive.

Qualifications

Experience:

GS-12: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as managing a physical security and law enforcement program within a museum or cultural institution including:

  1. Providing program planning;
  2. Overseeing policy development:
  3. Developing and implementing program performance metrics; AND
  4. Preparing reports and briefings on current security operational requirements.


GS-13: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as managing a physical security and law enforcement program within a museum or cultural institution including:

  1. Providing program planning;
  2. Overseeing policy development:
  3. Developing and implementing program performance metrics;
  4. Preparing reports and briefings on current security operational requirements; AND
  5. Managing the acquisition, installation, inspection, and repair of security devices.

There are no basic education requirements for this position.

This position is not included in the bargaining unit.
