Your Opportunity

As a Sales Team member, your primary responsibility would be introducing and placing new products with customers, executing organizational initiatives, and driving sales on key items with strategic customers for long-term growth.  Whether it is bacon, ham, fresh pork or another product category you will work directly with the customers and cross-functional with everyone from Business Management to our Plant Operations to deliver the service and products to our customers and consumers.

 

The Senior Director of Sales, Case Ready will be responsible to foster growth of Case Ready by executing business management activities related to the Case Ready category main group and working with the Fresh Pork Retail sales force with the case ready product offering to identify, capture, and successfully implement case ready opportunities. This individual will maintain consistent conformance to specifications pertaining to Smithfield’s case ready operations and products. This role also assesses case ready adherence to specifications at store level, providing proactive feedback on any corrections that need to be made.

Core Responsibilities

Case ready growth responsibilities:

  • Assist retail salesforce with identifying customer targets
  • Supplement retail salespeople’s knowledge by providing expertise for selling case ready programs with customers
  • Support implementation of programs with customers

Manage direction of Business Management/Case Ready in:

  • Performing business management functions for case ready
  • Create and support achieving AOP for the Case Ready product main group
  • Partner with Senior Director of Business Management/Case Ready to develop capabilities and talent of others on the team to grow within Case Ready

Direct activities of Manage of QA/Case Ready to:

  • Maintain consistent adherence to specifications in case ready operations/product line across all production facilities
  • Manage customer interaction pertaining to quality issues such as data/information, corrective action, etc.

Direct activities of Case Ready Managers in:

  • Scheduling of weekly store level audit activity for case ready customers’ stores
  • Supplying weekly audit results reporting for both Case Ready sales/operations and for customers
  • Directing activities in supporting at store level case ready customer start up, to include training, results tracking, operational and quality feedback, etc.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 10 years’ relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required
  • Candidates with a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 8 years’ relevant experience will be considered qualified.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management, required
  • Must understand the dynamics of the Consumer Packaged Goods industry.
  • Understanding of product cuttings – comfort and knowledge of product attributes.
  • Meat (protein) sales experience, strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated sales planning, forecasting and sales execution experience required
  • Must have a solid understanding of customer focused and fact based selling, including IRI, Neilsen and Perishable Group data.
  • Knowledge and experience with Apple software, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • SAP experience, preferred.
  • Ability to take unstructured or under-developed accounts to achieve sales volume and margin growth; acts with a sense of urgency and passion, self-directed
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • May travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May provide leadership and guidance to other employees on the Sales team.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.
