PART-TIME Field Technician

Smithers is seeking a PART-TIME Field Technician at our cannabis testing facility located in Darien, IL.  Requires local travel within the state - however you do not have to be local to Darien to apply.  Please Note: Smithers will not relocate candidates for this role. 

• The Field Technician provides field sampling and courier service of laboratory samples covering the state of Illinois.
• This position is responsible for accurately, safely, and lawfully collecting and transporting samples from client sites to the laboratory, as well as ensuring strict adherence to state law and to all delivery and manifest protocols.
• The Field Technician serves as a face of the business to clients, must provide excellent customer service, and is responsible for building efficient pickup schedules and routes to meet client and lab needs and expectations with management supervision.
• Understand and execute all state laws and regulations applicable when handling and transporting cannabis.
• Collect and transport cannabis samples from cultivation sites to laboratory while operating a vehicle safely.
• Ensure samples are accurately collected by cross-checking a manifest and properly securing samples prior to delivering to lab.
• Ensure compliance and accuracy involving all sample tracking, sample security, and sample delivery.
• Manage documents associated with sample collecting, ensuring that proper documents are kept and returned to the lab completed and ready for filing.
• Responsible for company vehicle maintenance, including maintaining logbooks; scheduling oil changes, tire rotations, and other vehicle inspections to ensure the vehicle is safe to operate.
• Carry out all procedures in an efficient manner that complies with OSHA regulations, Smithers SOP's, and all applicable procedures.
• Cross-train on introductory laboratory techniques alongside the Smithers laboratory team as needed.
• A strong adherence to protocol and compliance are a must for this role.

 Position Requirements:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D minimum
• Confident navigating using maps and GPS, and building efficient driving routes to and from destination using said tools
• Proficient in basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook)
• Proficient with using basic laboratory tools (balance, tongs, spatulas, syringes, etc.) preferred
• Must pass a comprehensive background check that includes a criminal history and driving record check
• Must maintain a current driver's license and an excellent driving record on and off the clock
• Must be 21 years of age or older (required by IL state law)
• One to three year(s) prior or equivalent experience as a courier preferred
• Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to drive in a safe manner in all four seasons and use good judgement in inclement weather
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time, get in and out of a vehicle several times a day
  • Ability to reach, bend, lift, and walk for long periods of time in cultivation facilities wearing a Tyvex suit or other required PPE when collecting samples
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, lift/carry cannabis product, totes and push/pull carts, coolers, and backpacks while sampling

The hourly range for this role is $20.00-$22.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
