Duties
- Plan and implement basketball training sessions tailored to 7th and 8th-grade girls, emphasizing fundamental skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship
- Lead practices and games, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment for all participants
- Teach sport-specific techniques such as dribbling, shooting, passing, defense, and game strategy
- Foster positive behavior management strategies to encourage discipline, respect, and teamwork among players
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school staff regarding team progress, schedules, and player development
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during all activities, including the operation of AED (Automated External Defibrillator) equipment when necessary
- Promote physical fitness by integrating conditioning exercises and encouraging healthy competition
Skills
- Proven experience in sports coaching or team leadership within basketball or similar sports such as soccer or cheerleading
- Strong background in working with children and understanding child development principles
- Knowledge of coaching techniques specific to middle school athletes and experience teaching physical education or sports-specific training instruction
- Excellent communication skills for effective client (student/parent) interaction and team motivation
- Ability to manage behavior effectively while fostering a fun and energetic atmosphere
- Certifications in first aid, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), AED operation, and health/safety standards required or preferred
- Experience with martial arts disciplines such as karate or judo is a plus for discipline training methods
- Familiarity with climbing activities or gym experience can enhance coaching versatility
- Demonstrated ability to teach sports skills such as basketball fundamentals while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship
