Job Overview
Smith Site Development is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented General Construction Estimator to join our growing team. Our General Construction Division completes a wide range of projects, including commercial & industrial additions, renovations, roofing, mechanical, electrical and plumbing improvements, demolition, hazardous material abatement, and site improvements.

Responsibilities
- Review plans, specifications, bid documents, and project requirements
- Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for general construction projects
- Perform material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and project-cost takeoffs
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals
- Identify project risks, exclusions, scope gaps, and value-engineering opportunities
- Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits as needed
- Develop bid packages, proposals, clarifications, and scope summaries
- Maintain current pricing information and strong relationships with subcontractors and vendors
- Collaborate with project managers, field personnel, owners, architects, and engineers
- Assist with project turnover from estimating to field and accounting operations
- Track bid results and maintain organized estimating records
- Help ensure projects are competitively priced while meeting Smith Site Development’s standards for quality and performance
Qualifications
- Previous estimating experience in general construction
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, sequencing, and project costs
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Experience with quantity takeoffs, subcontractor solicitation, and proposal preparation
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction estimating software
- Experience with commercial, municipal, educational, or renovation projects is preferred
- A degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required with equivalent industry experience
