Position Overview: The position of estimator plans, directs, coordinates, and budgets activities concerned with the construction of heavy/highway projects. This position participates in conceptual development of a construction project and oversees plan review, scheduling, and implementation of grading/utility bid submittals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Estimate projects which typically range from 1 million to 30 million dollars.
- Estimate self-performed work and price the labor, equipment, and material costs.
- Produce accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings.
- Produce detailed, final contract estimates for both grading and utility projects.
- Assess site exposures/construction risks and be able to appropriately analyze costs and reflect these in an estimate.
- Identify constructability issues through the estimating process.
- Identify value-engineering alternatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- An Associate’s Degree, Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience working for a General Contractor as an estimator bidding on NCDOT or heavy highway projects that include grading, water, sewer, and storm drainage is preferred.
- Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with management and fellow employees.
- Experience in estimating projects that typically range from 1 million to 30 million dollars is preferred.
- Experience in estimating grading and utilities on NCDOT projects is preferred.
- Working knowledge of construction assemblies and all project phases is required.
- A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record are required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Travel may be required.
- Ability to work as a team.
- Working experience with B2W estimating software preferred.
