Smith, Murphy and Dobbs, LLC is a small law firm making a big impact. We are a general practice firm that provides legal services in a variety of areas including personal injury, criminal defense, civil litigation, wills and estates, business law, and debt collection.
We are looking for an entry-level associate attorney to join our growing firm and provide support in best assisting our clients. This role is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain immediate courtroom experience, develop practical skills through direct client interaction, and build a strong foundation in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment.
Responsibilities
- Representing clients in justice and municipal courts, including bond hearings, preliminary hearings, plea days, and trials;
- Completing intake and consultations with potential clients;
- Assisting managing attorneys with case development, from intake through resolution;
- Drafting and filing pleadings, discovery, motions, and other litigation documents;
- Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda;
- Participating in developing cases to prepare for the trial;
- Engaging in negotiations with opposing parties and opposing counsel;
- Developing and maintaining relationships with clients; and
- Completing other general office and case management-related tasks.
Skills and Qualifications
- Licensed to practice law in Mississippi (or awaiting bar results);
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong grammatical and proofreading skills;
- Strong time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task; and
- Diligence in completing projects in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
Salary: Starting at $55,000.00, but negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Potential for referral or other bonuses.
