A Production Planner at Smith and Loveless is primarily responsible for scheduling, proper loading, and reviewing of manufacturing orders related to sub-assemblies for all jobs; coordination of shop completion; revision and substitution implementation; material checking and expediting, backorder coordination, and monitoring of manufacturing order reporting for assigned jobs.

Job duties
- Process jobs received from the Application Engineering department to be sent to Design Engineering when complete.
- Process any Application Engineering revisions, including any changes made by the customer.
- Accurate and efficient implementations of revisions, substitutions, and backorders, coordination and follow-up between involved departments.
- Ensure prompt flow of materials to avoid production delays by monitoring open orders for timely receipt of material.
- Assist and advise shop personnel in expediting orders, in-process problems, and material delays.
- Print out Travelers and distribute with drawings to appropriate warehouse personnel, paying special attention to “hot items”.
- Handle receipts of submittals and orders for forecasting. Complete forecasting on a timely basis with a minimum of error for assigned product codes.
- Breakdown and send jobs to be scanned into microfilm for all jobs shipped every week.
- Maintain completed job files for three months as a backup.
- Other duties as assigned by Production Control Manager.
Skills/Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; some college preferred.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in an MRP manufacturing environment, preferably in expediting. Experience with Epicor Kinetic software is a plus.
- 2 years of accounting and industrial engineering experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with many different departments, sub-vendors, and individuals.
- Experience reading general ledgers (MRP), bills of materials and drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
