What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tank Welder position at Smith Industries, LLC?
We are seeking a highly skilled Tank Welder to support fabrication of pressure vessels, tanks, and related components in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for performing high-quality welding in accordance with applicable codes and standards, ensuring all welds meet strict quality, safety, and inspection requirements.
The ideal candidate will have experience in code welding for vessels/tanks, strong blueprint reading skills, and the ability to consistently produce welds that pass visual and non-destructive examination (NDE).
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform welding tasks on various metal components according to welding codes and blueprints (e.g., AWS, ASME, or other industry-specific standards).
- Ensures that all equipment is maintained and in good working order.
- Efficiently and accurately operates welding equipment and related tools necessary for manufacturing and production.
- Required to read prints and drawings accurately and follow all work instructions.
- Examines work pieces for defects and measure work piece with straightedge or template to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Dismantles metal assemblies or cuts scrap metal, using thermal-cutting equipment such as flame-cutting torch or plasma-arc equipment.
- Connects hoses from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas and turns valves to release mixture.
- Climbs ladders or works on scaffolds.
- Reports any discrepancies and safety related issues to shop foreman.
- Performs any task, assignment, or project assigned by shop foreman with expeditiousness and accuracy to accommodate production flow.
- Must inspect and repair all defects and discontinuities before Quality Control Inspector is called.
- Make repairs on vessels or tanks that have not passed inspection or need repair.
- Operates forklift, man lift, and scissor lift.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), welding helmets, gloves, and safety gear.
- Assists in training new welders and provide guidance on welding procedures and techniques as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Must be able to pass a 2G,3G,4F Weld Test
- Able to read print layout and build tank
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects and non-compliance issues.
- Working knowledge of AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards needed.
