Preflight & Production File Specialist
Location: Mishawaka, IN (On-site)
Smith Graphics Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Preflight & Production File Specialist to join our growing team in Mishawaka, Indiana. This position is focused on preparing, organizing, and verifying production-ready artwork for large-format printing, vinyl production, and signage applications.
This role is ideal for someone with strong Adobe Illustrator skills, production knowledge, and an eye for detail who enjoys working in a fast-paced print environment.
Primary ResponsibilitiesFile Setup & Preflight (Primary Focus)
- Review customer-supplied, print-ready artwork
- Prepare and nest non–print-ready files for production
- Identify and correct artwork issues prior to production
- Advise customers or internal staff on file setup corrections when needed
- Ensure PMS colors are properly embedded when required
- Verify scaling, dimensions, bleeds, and overall print accuracy
- Nest jobs on correct artboard sizes based on production method, including:
- Plotter-cut vinyl
- Roll-to-roll print
- Flat stock / rigid substrates
- Maintain consistent production-ready file standards
Creative & Layout Support
- Create basic layouts and production proofs
- Assist with vehicle layout setup and production preparation
- Make artwork adjustments and revisions as needed
File Management
- Maintain organized file structure on the company file server
- Archive and organize active production files accurately
Production Support
- Occasionally assist in production to support workflow and deadlines
- Work closely with printers, installers, and production staff to ensure file accuracy and efficient workflow
General Responsibilities
- Problem-solving related to production files and print setup
- Communicate effectively with internal departments to keep projects moving smoothly
Qualifications
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator required
- Understanding of large-format print production preferred
- Knowledge of vinyl cutting, roll print, and rigid substrate workflows preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in signage, graphics, or print production is a plus
Schedule
- Full-time
- 40 hours per week
