Position Summary:The Equipment Operator – Stream Restoration is responsible for operating heavy equipment to support stream and wetland restoration, erosion control, and habitat stabilization projects within and adjacent to right-of-way (ROW) corridors. This role involves working safely and efficiently to perform grading, channel shaping, bank stabilization, and re-vegetation support while maintaining compliance with environmental and safety regulations.Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, skid steers, track loaders, and dump trucks in stream and riparian environments.
- Perform precision excavation and grading to restore natural stream morphology and flow patterns within pipeline right-of-way areas.
- Construct in-stream features (riffles, pools, log or rock structures) per engineering and environmental design specifications.
- Implement erosion and sediment control measures (silt fence, coir logs, matting, check dams, etc.) in compliance with permit and environmental requirements.
- Load and haul materials such as topsoil, rock, and vegetation.
- Assist with hand labor tasks as needed, including planting, seeding, and site stabilization.
- Work collaboratively with environmental specialists, inspectors, and project managers to ensure project quality and compliance.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance; report mechanical issues promptly.
- Follow all company and client safety procedures, including those specific to working near active natural gas infrastructure.
Qualifications:Required:
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in environmental restoration, utility construction, or similar field.
- Proven ability to work safely and efficiently in and around streams, wetlands, and steep or sensitive terrain.
- Knowledge of erosion control BMPs, stream restoration techniques, and environmental compliance practices.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to travel and work extended hours outdoors in variable weather conditions.
Preferred:
- Experience working within natural gas pipeline right-of-way or utility corridors.
- Familiarity with environmental permits (e.g., USACE, state water quality, or FERC) and restoration plan implementation.
- CDL (Class A or B) and/or heavy equipment certifications.
- Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform manual labor tasks as needed.
- Comfortable working in and around water, uneven terrain, and confined right-of-way areas.
- Extended standing, bending, and operation of controls for long periods.
