Founded in 1984, Smith sources, manages, and distributes the electronic components that go into everything from mobile phones and computers to appliances and directional drilling systems. Smith is the leading independent distributor of electronic components and ranks number nine among all global distributors. In 17 cities around the world, from Silicon Valley to Seoul, our legion of employees communicates in 50 different languages and dialects and buys and sells components 24 hours per day, with global sales in excess of $8 billion over the last 5 years. For 12 weeks, our interns are immersed in a vigorous environment with direct access to account representatives and managers in an open working environment that is designed to encourage the free flow of ideas and information. Interns gain familiarity with the physical flow of commodities in both domestic and international markets and an understanding of Smith & Associates’ position in a global market. Trading activities are conducted through various affiliates in cities around the world; thus, Interns directly impact both sales and deliveries of commodities to customers across the globe. Interns will and participate in trading related tasks across three departments: Key Account Coordination, Sales, and Purchasing. You will be provided a mentor to guide you throughout your journey at Smith and have excess to our learning platform to obtain more knowledge and skills. Interns will work Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week. Responsibilities: Learn how to load requirements for the sales team. Learn to update sales orders and solve discrepancies. Learn to load customer contacts into CRM. Communicate with the credit team on orders that are on hold. Learn to load sales orders. Take notes during buyer and trader meetings and share summaries. Support the buying team with loading tracking information. Send traders the status of their purchase orders. Learn to call suppliers for updates on parts. Learn to map vendors and customers. Assist with driving sales results by generating sales leads, via the Internet and cold calling. Participate and assist in ad hoc projects. Support to develop/ expand (existing) customer base along with selected trader/group. Co-work/ support alongside Trading Group with assignments, challenges, and trading activities. Competencies: Self-motivated with attention to detail. Passionate about Sales and building relationships with customers. Education: Must be pursuing a higher education that is relevant to the position. Motivation: Interested in the electronics industry. Enjoy working in a fast-paced working environment.
