POC Coordinator

Manages the Point of Care Testing Program and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• 1. Coordinates the Laboratory interface with Patient Care Services for decentralized testing.
• 1.1 Establishes and enforces technical and administrative policies and procedures per professional and hospital standards 100% of the time as observed by Manager.
• 2. Supports the Quality Assurance Program.
• 2.1 Establishes and quantifies departmental quality assurance monitors as with the Administrative Manager.
• 3. Plans for supply purchases and instrument maintenancefor decentralized testing sites.
• 3.1 Assures adequate supply inventories are maintained as observed by manager and clinical chief.
• 4. Directs all problem solving activity.
• 4.1 Works directly with clinician to resolve issues as required as observed by manager and based on feedback from clinician.
• 5. Plans for future enhancements to POCT procedures and operations.
• 5.1 Reviews current literature for new methods and state-of-the-art techniques and makes recommendations to implement new tests, procedures, or methodologies as noted in periodic reports to director and/or clinician.
• 6. Fosters professionalism and demonstrates flexibility both inside and outside the department.
• 6.1 Adapts appropriately to a changing hospital and regulatory environments as observed by manager.
• 7. Maintains a high level of safety within the POCT areas and outside the department.
• 7.1 Enforces safety regulations according to established safety standards as indicated by supervisory observation.
• 8. Performs and review tests as required for assigned patients.
• 8.1 Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge and skill in performing and reviewing test results for geriatric patients as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from staff.
• 9. Performs other tasks as assigned by manager.
• 9.1 Accepts additional duties as assigned.
  

Qualifications

EDUCATION

BS, MS preferred.

Experience

Minimum of three years laboratory experience

LICENSURE

Registered Medical Technologist.

Special Skills

BS, MS preferred, Meets all CLIA '88 standards for General Supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
