Under the direction of pathologist, responsible for the gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimen. Prepare tissue for numerous pathology tests including frozen section diagnosis, flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry staining. Photograph gross and task may include administrative, supervisory and teaching responsibilities. Exercises initiative and judgement to solve problems. Inputs information into the LIS. Has a working comprehension of the technical and procedural aspects of histopathology. Comprehends and follows Procedure guidelines. Recognizes unexpected results and instrument malfunction and takes appropriate action. Demonstrates laboratory technical skills to other laboratory personnel.

Responsibilities
EDUCATION
Graduate of an AAPA approved Pathologists' Assistant program with Master's degree in Health Sciences. Must be AAPA and ASCP certified or board eligible.
Experience
Work experience in a CAP/ CLIA certified Anatomic Pathology Laboratory is preferred but not required for hire.
LICENSURE
Certification from or eligibility for certification from ASCP.
Special Skills
Extreme manual dexterity required. Excellent attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, technical, communication and organization skills required. Comprehends and follows procedural guidelines. Recognizes unexpected results and takes appropriate action. Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills required. Must be able to collaborate effectively with all levels of management. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Excellent attention to detail required.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Position requires steady hands and excellent dexterity. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Manual dexterity for careful dissection of surgical specimens or organs required. Must lift and /or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth, perception and ability to focus. They are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Incumbents as well as external and internal applicants who disable must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodation as determined on a case by case basis.
