The part time dental clinical instructor is a vital member of the educational team responsible for providing clinical instruction and guidance to clinical new hires and dental students. This position combines clinical expertise with teaching skills to foster the development of competent and confident dental professionals.
Schedule for 2026
Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30pm-9:00pm with one additional day during the week for prep work
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Instruction: Deliver comprehensive clinical instruction in dental procedures, techniques, and patient care protocols in accordance with DANB guidelines and curriculum requirements.
Hands-on Training: Provide hands-on training and demonstrations to clinical team members and students, ensuring they acquire proficiency in dental assisting skills, instrumentation, and equipment operation. Schedule and track mandatory annual trainings.
Supervision and Mentorship: Supervise and mentor students during clinical rotations, offering guidance, feedback, and support to enhance their clinical competence and professionalism.
Safety and Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to infection control protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements in all clinical activities, promoting a culture of safety and professionalism.
Resource Development: Assist in the development and revision of clinical curriculum, instructional materials, and assessment tools to align with DANB standards and educational objectives.
Evaluation and Assessment: Conduct performance evaluations, assessments, and clinical competency examinations to measure clinical staff and student progress and proficiency, providing constructive feedback for improvement.
Professional Development: Stay informed about advancements in the dental field, attend professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance teaching skills and clinical knowledge.
Collaboration: Collaborate with Dentists, Specialists and leadership team, to ensure the integration of clinical experiences with didactic learning, fostering a cohesive educational environment.
Administrative Duties: Assist in administrative tasks related to orientation, clinical scheduling, student documentation, and program coordination, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with institutional policies.
Requirements
Dental Assisting Certification: Current certification as a Dental Assistant and Active Radiology certification.
Clinical Experience: Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience working as a dental assistant or Expanded Functions Dental assistant.
Teaching Experience: Prior experience in clinical instruction, precepting, or mentoring students in a dental education setting preferred.
Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff, and patients.
Clinical Competence: Proficiency in a wide range of dental procedures, including chairside assisting, instrument sterilization, radiography, and infection control practices.
Educational Background: Dental Assisting, EFDA license preferred.
Licensure: Current licensure as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant in the state of Pennsylvania preferred.
Professionalism: Commitment to professionalism, ethics, and maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in dental software applications and electronic health records (EHR) systems used in clinical education and practice.
