A Dental Hygienist works closely with dentists to provide preventative oral care, educate patients on proper dental hygiene, and perform procedures that support oral health. The role involves direct patient care, technical skills, and strong communication abilities to ensure patients receive high-quality dental services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct oral health assessments, including examining teeth and gums for signs of disease or abnormalities.
- Perform professional dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and applying preventive treatments (e.g., fluoride, sealants).
- Take dental x-rays.
- Record and maintain accurate patient dental histories and treatment notes.
- Educate patients on proper brushing, flossing, and overall oral hygiene techniques.
- Assist the dentist during exams and treatments when needed.
- Identify potential oral health issues and communicate findings to the dentist.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, sterilization, and safety protocols.
- Stay updated with current dental hygiene practices and advancements.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program.
- Current state licensure as a Dental Hygienist.
- Certification in local anesthesia and radiology.
- CPR certification
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and infection control.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
- Detail-oriented with good manual dexterity.
