Responsibilities
- Assist with patient intake by collecting medical histories and updating electronic health records (EHR) systems accurately.
- Prepare patients for ophthalmic examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring their comfort.
- Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment, tonometry devices, and other ophthalmic diagnostic tools.
- Conduct eye refraction tests and assist with ophthalmic patient examinations under the supervision of the optometrist.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies to protect patient privacy at all times.
- Support the clinical team by practicing aseptic techniques during procedures and managing medical records securely.
- Assist in the operation of electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems, ensuring accurate documentation of patient visits and test results.
- Provide excellent patient service through clear communication, compassionate care, and efficient appointment flow.
- Support retail sales of optical products when appropriate, applying retail math skills to ensure proper inventory management.
Experience
- Prior experience in an ophthalmology practice is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye health and physiology enhances your ability to assist effectively.
- Hands-on experience with ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as tonometers or A-scan biometry is advantageous.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for managing electronic health records efficiently is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to clinical confidentiality policies is essential.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in handling medical records and clinical data.
- Retail experience combined with basic math skills can be beneficial for optical sales support.
