General Summary of Position:
Sales representatives are responsible for cultivating and contracting new and additional business for the company within an area of responsibility. They maintain and manage current accounts through ongoing business relationships. Sales reps collaborate with other departments to satisfy customer expectations and solve problems for customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Prospects and calls on businesses in designated areas of responsibility, to determine consumer needs and opportunities for SMC to meet said needs. Satisfies expectations of current accounts.
· Acquires understanding of customers’ operations and strives to provide efficient, cost-effective designs for their packaging needs.
· Works closely with the Sample and Design and Graphics departments to generate new design proposals and samples.
· Make presentations to customers outlining features and pricing.
· Provides necessary information required for product set-up and order processing by customer service representatives.
· Works closely with Sample & Design, Graphics, Purchasing, Production, and Customer Service personnel in follow-up and expedition of orders placed.
· Informs customers of current market conditions and their effects on pricing and availability of material.
· Keeps customer base current on accounts payable.
· Operates professionally with customers, managers, supervisors, and employees.
· Represents the organization at all times while engaged in community activities or work-related functions.
· Understands and practices all safety requirements and regulations as set forth in Corporate Safety Manual and adheres to established rules at customer facilities.
· Performs other functions as defined by management. Job duties are subject to change according to corporate requirements and business conditions.
· Accessible and responsive to customer concerns/issues at all times, operating with the understanding that the job is not confined to typical Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. business hours.
· Reports overall market conditions to SMC locations.
· Cultivates and maintains relationships both inside SMC and within customer facilities.
· Communicates openly and honestly inside SMC and within customer facilities, exhibiting integrity.
· Participates in continued education, committing to professional development and continuous improvement in industry knowledge and expertise.
· Position requires frequent contact with general public, customers, or other outside representatives.
· Contact may occur between departments that require tact, discretion, and diplomacy in discussing problems, presenting data, and making recommendations.
Qualifications & Skills:

· High school diploma required, post-secondary degree and corrugated industry knowledge preferred.
· Exhibits professionalism.

· Utilizes professional writing/composition abilities.
· Conducts business in a moral and ethical manner.
· Demonstrates presentation and problem-solving skills.
· Possesses valid driver’s license.
· Demonstrates computer literacy (Microsoft suites, 10-key pad).
· Practices organization/time management skills.
· Possesses positive attitude and perseverance.
· Employee subject to 60-day probationary period and subsequent evaluations.
Working Conditions:
This position may involve a variety of physical activities, including prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or walking, depending on the nature of the work. Employees may occasionally need to lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and tasks may involve bending, reaching, or repetitive motions.
The working environment may include exposure to varying temperatures, such as warehouses, or climate-controlled offices, along with moderate noise levels from equipment or machinery.
